Traditional Postpartum Care Is Mother-Centered

Knowing that mother and baby are, physiologically, one unit. When a mother is thriving, her baby will thrive too.

Traditional, ancestral postpartum care is rooted in five pillars.

REST

WARMTH

FOOD

BODYWORK

COMMUNITY

These are the foundational elements that a postpartum mother requires for healing after birth.

During a postpartum healing session, my intention is to warm you up - inside and out. Our time together may include any of the following:

BODYWORK

NOURISHING FOOD

There are many ways we can tend to your body after birth. A postpartum healing session might include one or more warming therapies or self-care practices.

  • Herbal Baths Or Sitz Baths

  • Vaginal Steaming Massage

  • Moxibustion

  • Closing Of The Bones

  • Belly Binding

  • Castor Oil Packs

  • Cesarean Scar Tissue

  • Care/Self-Massage

  • Breast Care/Self-Massage

  • Gentle Stretches/Yoga

Postpartum nourishment is essential for a mother’s recovery, breastfeeding, and long term health and vitality. I’m here to support you in staying nourished with all the right foods for healing.

  • Preparation of warm, easy to digest, nutrient-dense food and drink (soups/stews, herbal infusions, etc)

  • Guidance on postpartum nutrition - especially if others are cooking or bringing food

MAMA SUPPORT

BABY SUPPORT

I’m here to support you as you reflect on your values and intentions in mothering. We can discuss questions or doubts that may arise in understanding and connecting with your primal newborn. I can provide information on newborn physiological norms, while supporting you in trusting your own instincts.

  • Practical woman-to-woman support with breastfeeding

  • Support with babywearing, baby massage, safe sleeping arrangements, poop questions, etc

  • Connection to other resources and practitioners as needed

I’m here to witness you, hold space, and honour all of the intensity of the postpartum time: your joy, grief, rage, awe, and everything in between.

  • Birth story listening

  • Breathwork or meditation practice

  • A space to simply be; a space to unravel

“I had the pleasure of having Alex come to my home for a session that entailed a healing massage, sitz bath that Alex brewed herself, Closing of the Bones ceremony, and a tutorial on Benkung belly binding. After enduring a labour that had some traumatic components, the massage Alex offered allowed my body to release the stored energy and I felt lighter and free. During the Closing of the Bones ceremony, I had this beautiful sensation of being held…lifted just like how I happily lift my baby. Alex guided my body to allow for new channels of energy and love to flow through me. I cannot thank and recommend her enough to all the moms to be!”
