Closing of the Bones is an invitation to allow yourself to go inward,
be nurtured, and feel truly
held - perhaps in a way you
never have before.
Closing of the Bones is a practice, a ceremony, a ritual, that has been coming into women’s awareness in recent years. It is a cross-cultural practice.
I offer this practice with deep reverence for the midwives, healers, and wise women who have performed this ceremony throughout the ages, and for all traditions and lineages from which it stems.
Having its roots in many cultures worldwide, there are many different ways to practice Closing of the Bones. The core of the practice involves wrapping the body from head to toe with scarves, for the receiver to rest and be held in the snug embrace of the fabric as it is pulled tightly around their body.
YOUR SESSION INCLUDES
During the ceremony, we spend a few hours together, in your home. Care is taken to set up a beautiful, peaceful ambience in the space. Our time together usually consists of the following elements:
Grounding Practices (Breathing, Meditation, or Song)
Herbal Bath or Yoni Steam
Relaxing Oil Massage
Wrapping of the Body with Rebozos/Scarves
Tea and Food/Snacks to Nourish and Replenish Ourselves
You may have your Closing of the Bones with just me, or if you would like, I can bring another woman with me and we will facilitate together. It is a lovely feeling to be tended to by two women - and traditionally, this is how it is done.
PRICING
Before your ceremony day, we will connect virtually. We will meet so that you can share your story and your inspiration and intentions for your Closing of the Bones. We will co-create a vision and plan for our time together.
IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO BE HELD
If you are not in your fourth trimester, there is still potent medicine to be found in Closing of the Bones. What parts of yourself need tending to? What parts of your story are asking for space to be heard, felt, or closed?
“I had the opportunity to participate in a Closing of the Bones ceremony for my sister, led by Alex. She beautifully guided our time together with wisdom and expertise. She reassured us with her strong, confident, yet gentle presence. She brought healing with her hands through thoughtful massage and body work with the rebozos and scarves.
What stands out to me was the extra level of care that was provided. Including a planning meeting, text support, specially chosen tea and flowers, oil massage, bones closing ritual, music, meditation, and shared meal. Alex led us through it all gracefully.
Beyond what we could have envisioned, Alex imparted to both my sister and I new information, tools and an experience that we will cherish forever. The gift of her unique loving presence and healing touch. I’m grateful to have found Alex and would highly recommend any of her services.”
SARAH LOUISE POSTPARTUM
HEALING SESSION
In traditional postpartum care, it is customary for a woman to receive Closing of the Bones at least once, if not several times, in the first six weeks postpartum. If you have booked Postpartum Healing Sessions with me, we will incorporate this into our sessions.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

While the immediate postpartum time is certainly a potent window to receive Closing of the Bones, this medicine is powerful for anyone moving through any transition, at any age or stage of life. In my INNATE training, I was taught that traditionally midwives in Mexico would perform Closing of the Bones for anyone in the community who needed healing - not only postpartum women, but also children or men.
I have facilitated Closing of the Bones to support women as they move through big challenges or changes - for example, a mother of three closing her childbearing chapter, or a woman processing her abortion experiences from years ago.
It is a beautiful honour to offer care to women in different seasons of life and mothering.
-
Mothers of toddlers and school-aged children will often tell me they wish they had received the kind of postpartum care I offer. To these women I say - it’s not too late.
There is profound medicine in allowing yourself to be supported, witnessed, and cared for — no matter how much time has passed since birth.
